Math---- things we’re doing… comparing graph info and looking for the “difference” (that’s a signal word for subtract)

commutative property, rotating, clockwise, counter  clockwise, fact families

 + 9’s are NOT hard for us----we have a trick—ask us about it!

Doubles plus one are a breeze when we use what we know to find the unknown!

Vertical, horizontal & oblique line segments, tally marks,  adding 10s, place value--using dimes and pennies to represent 10s and 1s—making trades with coins—10 pennies for a dime, etc.  Identifying extra info in a story problem, half past an hour, hours from and ago a specific time.  For practice on basic facts:    www.kidsnumbers.com

Literacy 

We’re working on comparing/contrasting and inferring, using guide words in a dictionary.   We now should know the 5 parts of a friendly letter.

  Word Wall Words (WWW) to study: aisle, copilot, enemy, Japan, label, unless, whirlpool, cold/warm blooded, poisonous, sweat

 Ask about our “ memory sentences” in the back of the book.

Homophones make us CRAZY!!!! BUT--- we LOVE idioms, they make language so much fun!!!!

Turn in Book-It connections the last weekday of school each week.

Finishing Book!! DQ celebration 11/25 after school

 SCIENCE-  ON to chemistry and physics!!! Watch out for smoke and explosions from room 100!

Ask us to sing the WATER CYCLE SONG!                                                                        We have an evaporation experiment going on! Ask us about containers A,B, and C.

Social Studies                                                

Our unit is:  Settling the Land (settlers/pilgrims/Native Americans)

We’re headed to the northeast !      We’ll study about Native Americans along the way.  Project  create your own timeline from birth to now—due Dec. 16th

11 NE states & caps—  and mneumonics to help recall them   (this test will be around December 3rd or 4th )

PA- Harrisburg— (there’s a pen in my hair)

ME-Augusta (August is hot to ME!)

MD- Annapolis (Anna and Mary)                       

MA- Boston (ma is the boss)

NH- Concord ( we conquered the hamster)

RI- Providence (prove that it’s NOT an island)

NY- Albany (we ALL want to go to NY)
