Mountain Top Breakfast this
tomorrow! Bring a snack to enjoy during
your literacy “Fruit Break.” My homeroom students are doing
“Type to Learn” for at least 15 minutes each day. In their free time at home, they can
continue to improve their typing skills by typing friendly letters or
messages to others. |

Study those math multiplication
and division facts! HW: PS 38 and return signed
test slip I will be sending home the
students’ fast fact tests after we record them on their individual score
sheets. Students should try to
complete any missed problems in their free time (preferably in red ink), and
hopefully, this will help them improve their score next time. These do not need to be sent back to
school. |

We read The Wizard of Oz
in our Reading-Mastery book. (25 chapters!!!)
Yesterday we finished watching the movie and made another Venn Diagram
to compare the book and the movie. The
students did a fantastic job paying attention to details in both the book and
the movie. One big difference they
noticed was that in the book, they did not reveal that the story was a
dream. In the movie, of course, they
did. Wow! You should have seen some of the students’
faces when they made that revelation!
Priceless!!! HW: literature anthology story, “The Jacket”
and questions 1-5 on pg. 47 Students read the story in
class today, but some need to finish the Story Questions at the end. |

We have started our unit on
paper! ... Last Wednesday we went to the lab and examined different kinds of
paper under a microscope. We noticed the
density of the fibers of tissue paper, magazine paper, construction paper,
etc. Today we tested different kinds
of paper towels for strength. Next
week we will test for absorbency. |

Check out this great website on
This week we are learning about
the 7 characteristics of a civilization:
stable food supply, social structure, government, religion, the arts,
technology, and writing. The students
received an assignment on Tuesday which is due next Tuesday. Please look for those
assignment sheets in their Take-Home folder and help them pace
themselves. We talked a lot about
planning for a long-term assignment and putting forth his/her best
effort. I also explained that some
people who are not great at taking tests might be better at doing projects
and that these kinds of assignments are equally important. Students will have some time in class
tomorrow morning to work on these projects and to collect symbols that they
need for each characteristic. |
